Couples League 2010 Formats
JACK & JILL: is essentially just another word for "2 man scramble." A Jack and Jill golf tournament is one is which men and women are paired together. They usually involve one man and one woman pairing up to form a 2-person team.
(traditional couples league format)
LAS VEGAS: The Las Vegas Scramble is a variation of a regular scramble that involves the use of a 6-sided die. Here's how it works: Before play begins, assign a number from one to four to each member of your 4-person team. At each tee, all four members tee off, then the 6-sided die is thrown or rolled. Check the number that comes up on the die. If it is a 1, 2, 3 or 4, then the drive of the team member whose number matches must be used on that hole. (Example: On the first hole, all four team members hit drives. Then the number 3 is rolled. The drive hit by the team member who is designated No. 3 is the drive that must be played on this hole.) If the die comes up 5 or 6, then the team can choose the best drive among the four. Whether the die chooses your drive for you (rolling 1 through 4), or allows the team to choose the next drive (rolling 5 or 6), the hole is then played out as a normal scramble. There is a lot of luck involved in a Las Vegas Scramble. The key point to remember is that the die is rolled only after each player has hit his drive.
THREE BLIND MICE: is a tournament format that requires the winner to also have a bit of luck. In Three Blind Mice, once the scorecards are turned in the tournament organizers randomly draw three holes from the course just played. And everyone's scores on those three holes are thrown out. The scorecards are recalculated and the winner is crowned.
FIVE CLUB + PUTTER: tournament is one in which each golfer has to choose only give of his or her clubs to use during the tournament. In these cases, the putter does not count as one of those five.
RYDER CUP: Holes 1 through 3 will be played as best ball (take the best score from the team and record to score card). Holes 4 through 6 will be played as alternative shot (player A hits first shot and player B hits second shot. That continues until the hole is complete). Holes 7 through 9 will be played as scramble (take the best shot from the team and both play from there continue this until the hole is complete).
CHRISTINA’S REVENGE:
Hole #1 Par 5 Normal Scramble Format. Both players tee off, then the team selects the best drive and both players hit their next shot from that position. This is continued through the hole until the ball is in the cup.
Hole #2 Par 3 Throw your Second Shot. Normal Scramble format. The second shot is thrown, though.
Hole # 3 Par 4 Alternate Shot. Player A tees off. Player B plays the next shot. Player A plays the 3rd shot. This is continued through the hole until the ball is in the cup.
Hole #4 Par 4 Seven Iron. The entire hole must be played only using a seven iron. The format is a normal scramble format.
Hole #5 Par 4 Roll dice. Roll a die one per team to see what club each team uses to tee off. Normal scramble format follows.
1=Driver
2= Fairway wood
3= 4 iron
4= 6 iron
5= 8 iron
6= pitching wedge
Hole #6 Par 3 Pick Opponent’s Shot. Both Player A and B from both teams tee off. The opposing team then selects the other team’s next shot position. This is continued through the hole until the ball is in the cup.
Hole #7 Par 4 Best Ball. Each player plays his/her own ball throughout the entire hole, then the best score out of the two is written on the scorecard.
Hole #8 Par 3 Total Lack of Etiquette. Normal scramble format. Opponents can do ANYTHING to distract the other team, but you cannot touch them or throw anything at them.
Hole #9 Par 4 Reverse Scramble. Instead of selecting your best shot each time, you as a team must play the worst of the ball positions. This is continued through the hole until the ball is in the cup.
